My name is Alexia Cruz. I’m a current Springhouse student, and I give monthly to Springhouse because it offers a learning experience that no other school could give me.

I enjoy all the different learning opportunities we get at Springhouse. The internships give us a lot of experience and are very diverse. They give us a chance to learn something new. During my internship at FISH (Floyd Initiative for Safe Housing), I had a hard time understanding how to read a measuring tape. My teacher was there every time, explaining it until I learned. These learning opportunities we have are greatly supported by the community's generous support and are greatly appreciated by the students at Springhouse.

Another way Springhouse offers a great learning experience is by giving students time to meditate. Personal meditation time is a beautiful way to learn about ourselves and focus on just ourselves. During my morning meditation time, I found myself feeling so relaxed and ready for the day ahead of me. Sometimes we would even have a sacred moment with the whole group, and during this time I connected with my community in a very vulnerable way.

Springhouse also gives me learning opportunities by having a diverse selection of classes. Most of our classes are based on what students have interest in and what is important to them. While taking a student-led class about cooking, I got to experience making different things and learning how to make some recipes vegan-friendly. Student-led classes are one of our many leadership opportunities we get and are highly encouraged to take. Springhouse staff also helps us prepare for life after school. Saying yes to many of these opportunities has helped me discover new things about myself.

I am happy to be in a community with such giving people and I can’t wait for more amazing learning opportunities that are supported by everyone who donates.

That is still what Springhouse is today. Not simply a program. Not a model. A living community that requires tending, ...

As I drove 40 minutes to and from the radiation cen...
